Maths Curriculum
In advance of any maths unit being taught, all of the children complete a pre-test on the unit they are about to study. The results are analysed and any child who does not have the appropriate knowledge of the unit will be provided with support when required.
Classroom maths is taught using the same day intervention method. The majority of maths lessons will be delivered in 2 parts. Part 1 will be a formative based teaching session. Children will be taught in whole class/mixed ability pairs or mixed ability groups, based on an ‘I do, you do’ structure. Activities may be practical using representation and will be mainly completed on whiteboards or tablets.
In part 1 in KS1, once they confidently understand the concept, they will be asked to use their White Rose Workbooks and work independently, receiving same day intervention when required. There are also challenges available to stretch children further.
In part 2 in KS2, children use their tablets to access and use the online platform Learning By Questions (LBQ) to independently answer 6 fluency questions to determine if they are confident enough to start their given LBQ question set independently.
Those who need further input will start at level 1 of the LBQ question set and work with the teacher, receiving same day intervention (SDI) to ensure they have the required knowledge before moving onto level 2 and 3.
Those who answer most of the fluency questions correctly will start on level 2 of the LBQ question set to complete further varied fluency questions to hone in on the skills acquired before moving onto level 3.
Those who answer all of the fluency questions correctly will proceed straight onto level 3 of the LBQ question set, where they will be challenged straight away with reasoning and problem solving questions. This allows the children to apply their knowledge and skills acquisition.
Throughout the lesson, staff use instant formative assessment to ensure children receive same day intervention either 1-1, in small groups or as a whole class no matter which level they are on.
