Remote Education Provision: Information for parents
This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home.
For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this page.
From week commencing 4th January 2021, most of our learners at Croxby will be working from home. However, the academy will remain open for children in the following categories:
Critical Worker Children; Children with an EHCP and Vulnerable Children

While my child is participating in remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in the academy?

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in the academy. Children who are working in the academy will access the same learning as they would at home. They will not be taught face to face by their teachers. |

Accessing Remote Education
How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

As you are aware, we have introduced a blended approach to learning on Microsoft Teams. This enables the children to learn via electronic and online media combined with traditional face-to-face teaching. What will this look like for my child logging on? A teacher from your child’s year group will lead the daily lessons and these can be accessed live or later. There may be a second member of staff in the lesson to help children with any misconceptions and to provide live feedback. This will be the only opportunity for pupils to receive live feedback. The lessons which are recorded are private and must not be shared. Below, you will find pupil guides, which you should read with your child, so they understand the expectations of this blended learning approach. Instructions to help you access and use Microsoft Teams, if you are not already familiar with it are below. |
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:

How will my child be taught remotely?
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:

All of our lessons are taught live. If your child is in Reception, they have been sent home a whiteboard and pen to use during their lessons. If your child is in Year 1 or 2, they have been sent home a whiteboard and pen, their White Rose maths workbook for their maths lesson and an exercise book for all other lessons. For children in Year 3 – 6, most lessons can be completed on their devices using Purple Mash or LBQ (as they are in the Academy) however, they have also been given an exercise book to use when instructed by their teacher. Engagement and Feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?

How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our main approach to feeding back on pupil work is providing verbal feedback during the live lessons.
Additional support for pupils with particular needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

If my child is not in the academy because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?

Where individual pupils need to self-isolate but the majority of their peer group remains in the academy, remote education is the same approach as it is for whole groups. Children will be able to access their lessons from home and participate fully as if they were in the academy. |
